Day 1

Well here it is; 14 months in the making. The kids and I got this trip for Lisa for her birthday in October of 2000. She has been wanting to go for a while and since we have been to WDW 4 times and never the Cruise, we decided trip #5 was the one.

We did the 3/4 split; 3 days at the parks in Orlando and 4 days on the Cruise. We almost ended up driving to Orlando this time because airfare would have cost us $1700. But at the last minute we found reasonable airfare on Southwest. But we had to leave a day earlier. Since we could not get another night at the Polynesian we stayed at the Holiday Inn Family Suites. It is just 5 miles from WDW. It is an awesome hotel. It has to be to compete with Disney. The hotel was "train themed". Meaning there were train things everywhere. Jantzen just loved it, you know him and trains. We got a nice suite with a king size bedroom, kitchen and livingroom and...yes...a kids room complete with bunkbeds and trains on the wall. The kids flipped! They had never seen a room so cool. They had their own TV, phone, boombox and even speakers by the beds for the TV. This place was just fantastic. Lisa and I feared they would not want to leave and go stay in the $400/night Polynesian Resort at Disney.

We were all checked in by 4pm so we headed for an early dinner in the hotel restaurant. After dinner we went swimming at the pool. It is wonderful. Half the pool was for kids. It was a zero grade pool that went to about 3 ft. It had all kinds of things for the kids to play with. This hotel is really "kid oriented". I defintely recommend it.
